AFC Leopards head coach Andre Casa Mbungo expressed satisfaction with his team's progress following a 2-1 SportPesa Premier League win against Tusker at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on March 9, 2019.
Mbungo secured his second consecutive victory in the league following a four-match losing streak upon his appointment. The win marked a turnaround from a period that saw Leopards struggle at the bottom of the table, prompting fan discontent.
"The players are gradually embracing my philosophy," Mbungo stated. "Initial challenges included poor fitness levels, injuries, and low confidence. We've made progress but still have significant work ahead."
The coach defended midfielder Isaac Kipyegon, who received a red card for two yellow cards in the first half. Mbungo attributed the incident to the player's mental fatigue, noting Kipyegon's consistent participation since his arrival.
"He's one of the most dedicated players and has featured in every match," Mbungo said. "We'll support him through this phase."
Tusker's fourth consecutive league loss placed coach Robert Matano under increasing pressure after the defeat.
