Ethiopian Airlines confirmed a fatal crash occurred on March 10, 2019, when flight ET302 en route from Addis Ababa to Nairobi disappeared from radar shortly after takeoff. The airline reported 149 passengers and eight crew members were aboard the Boeing 737-800 aircraft.

The Ethiopian Prime Minister's office issued a statement expressing deep sorrow over the tragedy, citing the loss of 157 lives. "The Office of the PM, on behalf of the government and people of Ethiopia, would like to express its deepest condolences to the families of those that have lost their loved ones on Ethiopian Airlines Boeing 737 on regular scheduled flight to Nairobi, Kenya, this morning," the statement read.
