Siaya Senator James Orengo has demanded Deputy President William Ruto provide a formal statement on the Kimwarer and Arror dams controversy, accusing the VP of withholding critical information about the projects.
Orengo highlighted a stark contrast between Ruto's claim of Sh7 billion accounted for and the Sh21 billion reportedly unaccounted for, calling for transparency in the matter. "If the President doesn't compel Ruto to record a statement, I will personally ensure he does with the police," he declared during a rally in Sega on March 9, 2019.
The senator emphasized that no individual is above the law, stating his commitment to holding accountable those mismanaging public funds. He criticized Ruto for inviting public scrutiny over the dams but failing to provide consistent figures.
Orengo also urged President Uhuru Kenyatta to maintain his anti-corruption stance, noting that 43 Kikuyus, 18 Luos, 11 Luhyas, and 6 Kalenjins had been arrested under his administration. He argued that accusations of regional targeting were unfounded, suggesting Kikuyus had more reason to complain.
Ugunja MP Opiyo Wandayi echoed these sentiments, advising Kenyatta to remain resolute against graft. He criticized Ruto's allies for challenging the president's anti-corruption efforts, while Gem MP Elisha Odhiambo defended the administration's approach by referencing past arrests of Luo and Luhya leaders.
