An NGO reported 15 dialysis patients died during Venezuela's ongoing blackout, with over 10,000 at risk due to disrupted medical care, according to health rights group Codevida.
Francisco Valencia, director of Codevida, stated, "Between yesterday and today, there were 15 deaths for lack of dialysis." He emphasized that 95% of dialysis units nationwide had ceased operations, with 10,200 patients dependent on the service facing severe danger.
The blackout, which began on Thursday, has left much of the country without power, with President Nicolas Maduro's government accusing external forces of targeting the electricity grid. The U.S. supports opposition leader Juan Guaido, who is recognized as interim president by over 50 nations.
Maduro claimed 70% of power had been restored but alleged a cyberattack disrupted progress. Western regions including Barinas, Tachira, and Zulia remained without electricity, while Caracas and major ports experienced intermittent service.
