Rift Valley leaders dismissed allegations that the national anti-graft campaign disproportionately targets specific communities. Nandi Hills MP Alfred Keter emphasized that corrupt officials should face consequences individually rather than implicating entire groups. 'A Kalenjin leader who embezzles public funds does so for personal gain, not the community. No group is under threat in this fight,' Keter stated.
Keter criticized the government's fiscal management, noting that 60% of the Sh1.6 trillion budget funds debt servicing. He warned that county government worker salaries might be at risk in 2020 without additional borrowing. 'Our nation is financially strained while elites plunder public resources,' he said.
Baringo South MP Joshua Kandie echoed Keter's stance, declaring that those who misappropriated funds must face legal consequences. 'Your time is up – you must answer for your actions,' Kandie told alleged offenders. He also demanded government retain control of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport, citing national security concerns amid disputes between Kenya Airways and the Kenya Airports Authority.
