Deputy President William Ruto accused ODM leader Raila Odinga of orchestrating political division during a rally in Kilifi County, alleging the opposition leader's actions have destabilized party unity.
Ruto criticized ODM for expelling Malindi MP Aisha Jumwa, stating that political cohesion cannot be achieved through deceit or manipulation. He emphasized that no politician requires approval to collaborate with the government, asserting, "There is only one government of Kenya." The remarks came amid tensions over a 2017 agreement between Ruto and President Uhuru Kenyatta, which Odinga's party claims has caused internal strife.
The dispute escalated over conflicting reports about financial losses from a national scandal. Ruto maintained that only Sh7 billion was lost, while investigative bodies estimated Sh21 billion in misallocated funds. Odinga defended his anti-corruption efforts, stating they target systemic graft rather than individual politicians.
Jumwa, who appealed her ODM expulsion, pledged continued support for Ruto's presidential bid, claiming the DP is the sole leader demonstrating national development. She described her party's internal conflicts as a reason for her decision to align with the deputy president.
