On July 31, 2019, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (Cas) made a significant ruling in the Champions League final dispute between Esperance and Wydad Casablanca.
The African Football Confederation (Caf) had initially ordered the second leg of the match to be replayed at a neutral venue after Moroccan side Wydad walked off the field in Tunis due to a VAR malfunction.
However, Cas ruled that the executive committee of Caf did not have jurisdiction to order the replay, effectively quashing the decision.
According to Cas, it is now up to the competent Caf authorities to decide whether the second leg should be replayed or not, and to impose any necessary disciplinary sanctions.
The on-field fiasco led to Caf reducing the Champions League and Confederation Cup finals from two legs to one match at a neutral venue from next season.
