Odinga asserted the anti-corruption campaign aims to address systemic issues rather than target individuals, stating neither he nor President Uhuru Kenyatta seek personal gain from the effort.
"Uhuru aimed to leave a legacy, but I warned that current dynamics risk leaving a more divided nation," Odinga said. "Raila also seeks legacy, but our focus is uniting people, not pursuing future positions."
The opposition leader rejected allegations of infiltrating Jubilee to destabilize it, stating, "I am not a Jubilee member and have no involvement in its internal affairs." He highlighted his role as African Union special envoy for infrastructure development, contrasting it with political interference.
Odinga used Swahili metaphors to emphasize his focus: "Sio hapa. Sahii mimi nacheza Super League, hii ujinga ya nyumbani nimewachia nyinyi," translated as "Not here. I currently play in the Super League, this home nonsense I leave to you." He added, "Wacha mimi nicheze huko juu na Ronaldo na Messi na hao wengine," meaning "Let me play at the top league with Ronaldo, Messi, and others."
The remarks were made during the March 9, 2019, anniversary event of the handshake with Kenyatta at Nairobi's Serena Hotel. Other figures, including Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka, echoed similar sentiments about the campaign's non-partisan nature.
