Jomvu Member of Parliament Badi Twalib launched a 2019 initiative to distribute Constituency Development Fund (CDF) bursaries directly to students, aiming to prevent educational disruptions caused by financial constraints. The campaign coincided with the Ministry of Education’s target of achieving 100% student transition rates.
Twalib allocated Ksh 29 million from the CDF to support educational access in his constituency, emphasizing the need for parental engagement to combat poverty. He warned against corruption among CDF staff, pledging transparency in bursary distribution. The MP visited Mikindani, Miritini, and Jomvu areas to verify school enrollment and address barriers to education.
Meanwhile, a Mombasa-based Muslim advocacy group called for an investigation into alleged police harassment in Perani village. The group accused law enforcement of mistreating residents during operations targeting suspected militants, urging the Independent Policing Oversight Authority (IPOA) and Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) to probe the claims.
Coast Regional Commissioner John Elungata advised residents to remain calm, stating the matter was under investigation. He confirmed disciplinary action would be taken against any officers found guilty of excessive force.
