The Kenyan government allocated Ksh 2 billion to the Ministry of Agriculture for subsidized fertilizer purchases in 2019, according to a report from KBC News.
Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri stated that procurement processes were finalized, with affordable fertilizers expected to reach farmers soon. He made the announcement during an event in Eldoret, Uasin Gishu County, while addressing the Eldoret ASK Show.
Kiunjuri outlined plans to meet with stakeholders to prevent distribution delays. He also confirmed that farmers who supplied maize to the National Cereals and Produce Board had already received payments.
Uasin Gishu Governor Jackson Mandago advocated for legislative changes to enable direct fertilizer procurement for farmers, aiming to improve supply chain efficiency.
