The president shared a photo of his new smart-card license and certificate on Facebook, noting he received a unique identification number through the Firearms Licensing Board.
Kenyan law mandates that all firearm holders, including former and current leaders, undergo registration. Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i issued a directive in January requiring fresh registration, with a deadline set for the following Monday.
Elite police units provide continuous security to sitting and former presidents. The president’s decision to reissue his license follows heightened scrutiny of gun ownership regulations across the country.
