Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has emphasized the need for Marcus Rashford to develop greater ruthlessness in front of goal, urging the 21-year-old forward to emulate Cristiano Ronaldo and Romelu Lukaku's predatory instincts during training sessions.
Rashford demonstrated composure from the penalty spot during Manchester United's dramatic comeback against Paris Saint-Germain, scoring his seventh goal under Solskjaer's guidance. The interim manager highlighted Lukaku's recent scoring surge, noting six goals in three games as evidence of focused preparation.
"I keep reminding him that he should score as many goals as Rom after training sessions," Solskjaer said, referencing Lukaku's recent finishes. "He needs to capitalize on simple tap-ins and close-range opportunities, like Rom has done recently."
The former striker also drew comparisons to Ronaldo, pointing to the Portuguese forward's evolution from long-range strikes to clinical inside-the-box finishing. "Cristiano's goals have become more consistent from inside the box as he's matured," Solskjaer added.
Rashford, who scored twice on his Premier League debut against Arsenal in 2016, is now poised to face his former club on Sunday as a senior England international. Solskjaer expressed hope that Rashford would follow the example of long-serving legends like Wayne Rooney.
"We want Rashy to become one of those players who stays with the club for his entire career," the manager said. "That's the standard we set for our greatest players."
