Muthoni's family alleges the ministry pressured her to appoint a follower as co-director of Shaba Investment Limited, the entity managing the properties. They claim she was under the influence of unidentified substances that impaired her judgment, enabling the ministry to collect monthly rents from luxury apartments.
The family has filed a police report with the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), seeking probes into allegations of unauthorized wealth accumulation. A list of 10 luxury vehicles, including six Mercedes-Benz models from 2004-2012 and a 2014 Range Rover valued at Sh4.9 million, was reportedly linked to the estate's proceeds.
Supporters of Owuor, citing biblical references, defended him against the allegations on social media. Hashtags like #TheStarGutterPress trended as followers warned against 'blackmailing the mightiest prophet of the LORD,' referencing Isaiah 42:13. One user claimed Owuor's prayers had miraculously restored a woman's fertility after medical intervention.
DCI officials stated they would not be summoning Owuor immediately, though two housekeepers and a church administrator have provided statements at Kabete Police Station. The Star's investigation cited documents and interviews with complainants as well as Owuor's legal representatives.
