Three Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) lawmakers have sharply criticized Deputy President William Ruto for attacking leader Raila Odinga's stance on corruption, accusing him of undermining government investigations.
The trio, including Anthony Oluoch (Mathare), Mark Nyamita (Uriri), and Abdulswamad Nassir (Mvita), rejected Ruto's claim that he alone oversees government projects. Nyamita argued that Ruto's remarks undermine officials serving under the same administration, calling it sabotage of constitutional bodies like the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC).
The MPs expressed outrage after Ruto chastised critics, including Odinga, for commenting on the Arror and Kimwarer dam projects. Ruto had clarified the total cost was Sh7 billion, not the previously reported Sh21 billion. Oluoch condemned Ruto's accusations of misdirection, stating, "It is arrogance of the highest order to suggest Kenyans should focus on numbers rather than accountability."
Addressing journalists at Parliament Buildings on Friday, the lawmakers also disputed Ruto's assertion that the anti-corruption campaign is politically motivated. They cited ethnic bias in senior government appointments as evidence of politicization. Ruto had previously defended his involvement in the dams, stating they were central to the Jubilee Manifesto's water infrastructure goals.
