On July 29, 2018, Nairobi CBD chairman Timothy Muriuki was assaulted by a gang of suspected hired goons during a press conference. The incident occurred just a day before Police placed a Sh500, 000 bounty on each of the five suspects recorded on camera assaulting him.
According to Muriuki, the suspected hired goons alleged that he had organized the press briefing to mudsling Governor Mike Sonko's administration. However, Sonko has distanced himself from the five suspects.
"No amount of intimidation shall make me negotiate or back off in my quest for justice following the assault meted out on me on the material day in reference," Muriuki said in a statement addressed to Sonko.
"This kind of act never happened in our dark days of limited democracy and it will be shameful to let it prosper in this day and age," Sonko said in a statement to newsrooms, distancing himself from the incident.
Muriuki has stated that he will not forget the incident and will continue to pursue justice.
