Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officials uncovered three luxury vehicles concealed within household goods shipments at Mombasa Port, according to a customs investigation. The discovery occurred during routine cargo verification processes in March 2019.
The vehicles—identified as a Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Vogue, and Land Rover Discovery—were reportedly imported from the United Kingdom. Official documents initially stated the consignment was bound for Uganda, but discrepancies emerged during scanning procedures.
Customs officers, supported by a multi-agency taskforce, conducted full inspections after scanner imagery failed to align with declared contents. This led to the identification of the high-value vehicles hidden in two containers.
The seizure highlights the effectiveness of non-intrusive cargo scanning technology deployed at the port. Authorities emphasized the system's role in preventing smuggling, misdeclaration, and illicit trade of counterfeit goods.
