Kush Tracey, a Kenyan artist recognized for his gospel music, has publicly discussed his decision to transition from religious to secular music, emphasizing a commitment to inspiring youth through faith-driven narratives.
In a recent reflection, the artist shared, "I used to sing songs, but my emotions and thoughts weren't aligned with the lyrics. Despite widespread popularity, my heart wasn't fully present in the music." He explained that his change came after realizing the influence he had on young people, many of whom viewed him as a role model.
"I decided to change because many young people told me they were inspired by me and saw me as a positive example. I wanted to impact their lives through gospel music, not songs that lacked purpose," he stated.
Tracey also addressed his upbringing, recalling how his mother discouraged his musical pursuits during his childhood. "My mother always told me that the songs I sang wouldn't bring me recognition," he shared, reflecting on early challenges.
"My mother used to tell me that the songs I sang wouldn't make me famous," he added.
The artist emphasized his intention to use music as a tool for positive change, stating, "I don't want anyone to follow my path if it means losing sight of my values." His journey highlights the intersection of personal growth and artistic evolution in the Kenyan music scene.
