A Nairobi mother is seeking public support for her eight-year-old daughter's thyroid cancer treatment, as conflicting medical assessments complicate her care.
Haimanah Wairimu was diagnosed with thyroid cancer in 2018, according to medical records. The child's condition worsened over the following years, leading to prolonged hospitalization and treatment at Kenyatta National Hospital, where she remained for six months.
Doctors at Kenyatta National Hospital reportedly determined the cancer had progressed to stage four, prompting the family to seek alternative care. A physician from India later contested this diagnosis, asserting the cancer remained at stage two, according to the mother's statements.
Miswaleh Mlalanzi, the child's mother, has since traveled across Nairobi to raise funds for treatment in India. She described her daughter's current condition as critical, noting Haimanah requires an oxygen concentrator due to lung damage caused by the disease.
The family estimates total medical expenses at KES 5 million, including treatment and transportation. Mlalanzi has urged donors to contribute through Paybill number 678722 under the account name WAIRIMU.
