On July 31, 2019, Kenya and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to boost security cooperation between the two nations.
The agreement, signed during the third session of the Kenya-UAE Joint Commission for Cooperation (JCC) in Nairobi, aims to strengthen bilateral relations and enhance cooperation on security, economic, and cultural matters.
According to Foreign Affairs Principal Secretary Amb. Macharia Kamau, the MoU will facilitate the exchange of views on how to enhance peace and security, with a focus on combating terrorism.
"We have agreed to enhance our cooperation on security matters and Kenya will officially submit its request to UAE to support the fight against terrorism," Kamau said.
The agreement also includes the finalization of six pending agreements, including security issues, which will strengthen bilateral relations and cooperation on economic, financial, labour, and airline matters.
On the economic and investment front, the MoU aims to enhance trade investment relations through the chamber of commerce and form a joint business council between the two countries.
Kenya and the UAE enjoy warm and cordial relations, with a significant number of Kenyans living and working in the UAE, primarily in the hospitality, aviation, and security sectors.
