The Kenyan government has initiated steps to sell the struggling Kenya Meat Commission (KMC) to a private investor, seeking to inject capital and restore its viability as a state-owned enterprise.

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Kiunjuiri confirmed the privatization process will commence shortly, with a dedicated taskforce established to expedite the transition. He emphasized the government's role in enabling institutions to function effectively rather than direct management.

"Our mandate is to support organizations in delivering services to Kenyans and beyond," Kiunjuiri stated during a press conference on Wednesday. Livestock Principal Secretary H. Kimutai echoed this, noting that privatization would enhance KMC's operational capacity and expand animal product exports.

"KMC's persistent challenges necessitate this structural change," Kimutai said, highlighting the company's revival in 2006 as part of broader efforts to restructure state enterprises. The move aligns with plans to privatize 26 other parastatals.
