The late Marious 'Mario' Magonga, a standout rugby winger and basketball player at St. Mary’s Mosocho Boys Boarding School, left a lasting impression through his athletic prowess and unconventional school experiences.
Classmates recall Magonga’s exceptional speed and agility on the rugby field, where he often evaded tackles during scrums. Despite his athletic reputation, he showed little interest in football, preferring literature like the Hardy Boys series, which he discussed with peers such as Paul Oeri and Nicholas Ombuna.
Magonga’s school years included memorable interactions with Brother Vincent, a Catholic Christian Brother known for his strict adherence to hygiene. The teacher once confiscated snacks from students, leading to a punishment where Magonga was tasked with washing pigs at the school farm—a chore students preferred over weeding the crop fields.
A notable incident involved Magonga’s father arriving at the school via helicopter, an event that drew crowds of students. Christian Brother Lambert Nissink intervened to ensure safety during the landing, an act that became a cherished memory for many students.
