Two church employees appeared at Kabete Police Station on Friday to file formal complaints against Nabii Owuor, alleging he improperly accessed funds linked to Jayne Muthoni.
DCI Francis Wanjau confirmed investigators could not immediately question Owuor regarding allegations he misappropriated Muthoni's assets. The police chief emphasized the need for thorough verification before proceeding with formal inquiries.
Lily Macharia, a church administrator, also submitted testimony during the police interview. Wanjau stated investigators were seeking clarification on whether Muthoni had been administered medication that might affect her decision-making capacity.
"The complainants claim Muthoni was under medication, implying she was living with Owuor," Wanjau said.
Despite police requests, Owuor's legal team maintained he could not be interviewed until after Muthoni's medical condition was assessed. A DCI official told The Star newspaper that Owuor was being contacted to schedule a formal statement between Thursday and Friday.
Muthoni's family has filed a petition seeking court intervention to prevent Owuor from accessing her assets. They argue he has no legal right to manage her property.
Medical reports indicate Muthoni was hospitalized for treatment and remains in a critical condition. Authorities have not yet determined if she can provide a coherent statement about her financial affairs.
"Medical professionals must thoroughly examine his mental state before any statements can be accepted. Results will determine if he can provide a coherent account," legal advisor Njau stated.
