Mr. Chesang’ Kiptala, 75, has been hospitalized for five days following the fatal shooting of his son, Robert Chesang, a city lawyer, in Machakos County on February 17. The father, who was seen being carried by neighbors in Kalabata village, Baringo North sub-county, described the loss as devastating.
Robert Chesang, 45, was killed when armed men entered his Lukenya home and shot him at close range. Witnesses reported that the assailants tied up a guard before targeting the lawyer. Police found seven spent cartridges and three bullet wounds to his chest, with a post-mortem revealing fatal bleeding.
Mr. Kiptala, who relies on his son for support, said he became physically weak after the news and required hospitalization. "I don’t know why my son was killed," he told the Nation, adding that he now demands justice for his son’s death. His daughter, Priscah Chesang, confirmed their father’s hospitalization and noted the family’s ongoing struggle to process the tragedy.
The Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) has arrested Robert Chesang’s estranged wife, Pauline Maisy Omungala Chesang’, a magistrate in Nyeri, along with a serving and former police officer. Burial preparations for the lawyer are set for March 16, though his father’s final resting place remains uncertain.
