On July 30, 2019, Kakamega County Governor Wycliffe Oparanya inaugurated the county's public service board, where he addressed the issue of unprofessional staff attire.

Speaking at the event, Governor Oparanya expressed his disappointment at staff members who wear the same clothes to work, expecting to earn respect. He questioned how someone could reuse the same clothes and still be called 'honorable.'

He also condemned staff who leave their coats hanging on their office seats for extended periods, disclosing that all such coats had been collected and taken to his office.

Governor Oparanya directed his staff to act professionally and avoid looking like 'cattle herders' while on duty. He emphasized the need for discipline and adherence to county government policies.

Those with 'irritating' dress codes risk losing their jobs unless they change their behavior, the governor warned.

He also addressed the issue of staff members engaging in 2022 succession politics, urging them to focus on serving the people.

“Keep off from 2022 politics. It is not your duty to discuss about 2022. It will come and go just like other years. Do what I appointed you to do,” Governor Oparanya told his staff.
