The family of a 20-year-old Meru National Polytechnic student has refuted claims that their daughter's death resulted from a suicide attempt, asserting she died of liver and kidney failure.
Fridah Makena, a Business Management student, was found unconscious in her room after sharing a self-recorded video on WhatsApp showing her swallowing unspecified tablets. She later succumbed to her condition at Consolata Hospital in Nkubu on February 28, 2019.
Reports indicate Makena had recently experienced a rift with her boyfriend, a Cooperative University of Kenya student, whom she accused of infidelity. Her family described her final days in a eulogy, stating: "On February 25, 2019, she was taken ill and admitted at Nkubu Consolata hospital where she underwent treatment. On February 28, 2019, as she was receiving treatment, her condition worsened due to kidney and liver failure, she succumbed while undergoing treatment."
Makena was buried in Kaunjugi village, Imenti South, Meru county, following her death.
