The KCB Women's Team departed Kenya on March 8, 2019, bound for Cairo, Egypt, to compete in the 2019 African Women Club Championship. The squad left at 4 a.m. under the supervision of KCB Group Chief Operating Officer Samuel Makome and Head of Corporate and Regulatory Affairs Judith Sidi Odhiambo, who also serves as the team's patron.
Makome emphasized the team's dedication, stating, "We are delighted to send the team to this year’s continental championship. KCB ladies have worked exemplary hard to qualify for this championship. I wish them the best of luck in Egypt."
Experienced forward Noel Murambi was named team captain for the tournament by head coach Japheth Munala. The delegation includes 14 players and eight officials, with plans to return to Kenya on March 27, 2019.
The team secured their spot in the competition after finishing second in the national playoffs in 2018. They will join Kenya Pipeline and Kenya Prisons in representing Kenya at the event. Al Ahly of Egypt are the defending champions, having defeated Tunisia's Carthage in last year's Cairo final.
