Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA) officers intercepted three high-end vehicles at Mombasa port on March 7, 2019, during customs clearance operations. The Range Rover Sport, Range Rover Vogue SE, and Land Rover Discovery were concealed in two containers labeled as household goods.
Police confirmed the vehicles were listed as stolen in Interpol’s Motor Vehicles database in the United Kingdom. A verification process revealed discrepancies between scanner images and import documents, prompting further investigation.
KRA Commissioner of Customs and Border Control Kevin Safari stated that one container initially declared to hold a Vauxhall Insignia Elite and Nissan Juke instead contained the Range Rover models. The second container, reportedly carrying a Toyota YARIS VVT-1, was found to conceal the Land Rover Discovery.
DCI Kenya tweeted that detectives had initiated investigations to identify those involved in the smuggling operation. The agency emphasized that vehicle verification had been completed by KRA officers, with ongoing efforts to trace all perpetrators.
