Sauti Sol vocalist Bien Baraza has denied allegations that the band fails to support emerging musicians, countering claims made by radio presenter Jalango. The dispute centers on accusations that the MTV Award-winning group withholds industry expertise from local artists.
Baraza asserted that Sauti Sol has actively worked on initiatives to improve conditions for musicians without public recognition. He highlighted the band's efforts, including the launch of the Kenya Writers Association and the establishment of their label, Sol Generations, to create better opportunities for artists.
"Jalango is the biggest letdown, but that’s a story for another day," Baraza said. "I’d be a letdown if I saw a brother undermining another. He knows our plans and should have contacted me before making public accusations. I was upset and confronted him directly."
The vocalist emphasized the band's focus on restructuring the industry, noting that labels often fail due to poor organization. He added that Sauti Sol has spent the past year developing a new approach for fans. "To Jalango, I say 'meza dawa yako' – if I'm wrong, don't publicly correct your brother," he concluded.
