On Wednesday evening, two suspected gang members were killed in a police shootout in Gigiri, with three firearms recovered.
The confrontation took place at the Limuru Road-Red Hill junction when officers stopped a white saloon car. The suspects refused to comply with orders to halt and identify themselves, leading to the fatal exchange.
Police identified the suspects as part of a four-member gang operating a white Toyota Premio (registration KBR 399W). The group opened fire on officers, resulting in the deaths of two suspects while the others fled on foot.
The incident triggered panic, prompting the closure of part of the road. After a tense confrontation, traffic resumed shortly thereafter.
Authorities recovered a Glock pistol (serial FGT133) with three rounds, a Czeska Phantom (A733272) containing 16 rounds, and a Czeska mini (A869083) with 12 rounds.
Additional evidence included 100 rounds of ammunition, registration plates KCS 965F, and 12 spent cartridges found in the vehicle.
No officers were injured in the exchange. The deceased suspects were found without identification and were transported to the city mortuary for further processing.
