Chinese State Councillor Wang Yi stated Friday that Beijing backs Huawei Technologies' legal efforts to challenge U.S. restrictions, vowing to defend the interests of Chinese citizens and companies. The telecom giant filed a lawsuit alleging a U.S. law limiting its operations violates the Constitution.

The case intensifies Sino-U.S. tensions that escalated in 2018 through reciprocal tariff measures affecting billions in trade. Earlier in December, Huawei's chief financial officer was detained in Canada under U.S. extradition requests.

Wang described recent actions against Huawei as politically motivated during a parliamentary session news conference, calling the targeting of specific individuals and firms 'quite obvious.'
