Amani National Congress leader Musalia Mudavadi has called for an immediate halt to all public-private partnerships until public trust in government operations is restored, citing widespread corruption concerns.
Mudavadi criticized the Jubilee administration for its handling of Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and accused officials of orchestrating a secretive merger between Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) and Kenya Airways (KQ). He argued the move risks further destabilizing the nation's aviation sector amid ongoing labor disputes.
The ANC leader condemned the government's approach to aviation workers' strike, which began after KQ's proposed takeover of JKIA. Over 2,000 airport staff have been affected by the walkout, with reports of Sh500 million in daily losses due to flight cancellations and hotel bookings.
Mudavadi accused officials of prioritizing private interests over public welfare, referencing multiple scandals including alleged mismanagement at Kenya Power, the Galana-Kulalu irrigation project, and the National Health Insurance Fund. He demanded the immediate dismissal of industrial relations staff for failing to mediate with striking workers.
Cabinet Secretary James Macharia labeled the strike illegal, calling participants 'criminals' as the dispute intensifies. Mudavadi questioned the government's credibility, asking, 'What message is the administration sending to those who opened the US market?'
The ANC leader reiterated calls for President Uhuru Kenyatta to intensify anti-corruption efforts, stating, 'We cannot keep wondering when these people will get satisfied. Must they bleed the country dry to its very last drop of blood to feed their thirst for wealth?'
