Gatundu South Member of Parliament Moses Kuria declared the Jubilee Party 'dead' in a March 5, 2019, social media post, alleging opposition leader Raila Odinga played a role in its collapse.
Kuria's assertion came during a Twitter exchange with Citizen TV anchor Hussein Mohammed, where he stated: 'It is now clear that there is no longer a political party known as Jubilee. Respect Baba.' The reference to 'Baba' is a common nickname for Odinga.
The lawmaker, who represents President Uhuru Kenyatta's constituency, highlighted growing factionalism within the ruling party. This follows public disputes between Kenyatta allies and Deputy William Ruto over anti-corruption investigations and Ruto's 2022 presidential ambitions.
Internal conflicts intensified after the resignation of Party Vice Chairman David Murathe, a key Kenyatta ally. Despite holding majorities in both legislative chambers, Jubilee faces challenges from within as factions align with competing presidential candidates.
