Messi has missed six friendlies since that tournament but is expected to play a key role in the squad preparing for the Copa America in Brazil, which begins June 14.
The 31-year-old Barcelona star has faced repeated international heartbreak, losing major finals in 2014, 2015, and 2016. These included the World Cup final against Germany and two Copa America finals against Chile, including the 2016 Centenary edition.
With 65 goals in 128 appearances, Messi remains Argentina's all-time top scorer. His club success with Barcelona contrasts with his international record, where he has yet to win a major tournament. Argentina will face Venezuela in Madrid on March 22 before traveling to Tangier for the Morocco match.
