Real estate developer Bishop David Kariuki Ngari, known as Gakuyo, has appeared before the Directorate of Criminal Investigation (DCI) in connection with allegations of misappropriating 1.5 billion shillings from Ekeza Sacco. The former chairman of the savings and credit cooperative denied any wrongdoing, stating his legal team found no evidence linking him to the alleged misconduct.
Gakuyo claimed the accusations against him originated from social media, while investigators continue probing the case. The business leader had previously served as an economic advisor to Kiambu Governor Ferdinand Waititu, a role he has since relinquished.
Interior Cabinet Secretary Fred Matiang’i confirmed the government's commitment to investigating the scandal, vowing to prosecute officials found guilty of mismanaging co-operative funds. 'Rogue officials mismanaging funds in the co-operative movement will be prosecuted after the conclusion of investigations,' he stated.
