On July 31, 2019, Equity Bank was named Africa's Best Digital Bank for 2019 at the Euromoney Awards for Excellence, a prestigious recognition of its digital banking leadership.
The bank's commitment to delivering simple, fast, convenient, and affordable banking products and services has been a key factor in its success, with 93% of loans disbursed through mobile channels and 97% of cash-based transactions happening outside Equity Bank branches.
Digitisation has also driven growth in digital payment transactions by 94% in the last year, supported the growth of the Bank's customer numbers to 13.7 million, and contributed to a 12% increase in customer deposits to Kshs 428.5 billion.
Established in 1992, the Euromoney Awards for Excellence received almost 1,000 submissions from banks in the awards programme, which covers 20 global awards, more than 50 regional awards, and Best Bank awards in close to 100 countries.
