Forbes' 2019 analysis of Africa's billionaire class reveals that telecommunications, mining, and real estate dominate wealth accumulation, with historical milestones like Celtel's 1998 founding influencing modern industry dynamics.

Nigeria's Aliko Dangote, Africa's richest individual with $10.9 billion, leads the cement sector through Dangote Cement, the continent's largest producer operating in eight countries. His business also includes sugar and flour production. Abdulsamad Rabiu, founder of BUA Group, holds a $1.6 billion stake in the Cement Company of Northern Nigeria, with additional interests in sugar refining and manufacturing.

The mining and oil sector features Nigerian entrepreneur Mike Adenuga, ranked as the world's second-richest black person, and South African Patrice Motsepe, whose $2.3 billion fortune stems from platinum and mineral investments via Rainbow Minerals. Nigerian oil tycoon Florunsho Alakija, Africa's first female billionaire, owns a stake in OML 127, a key Nigerian oil block. Dangote is also developing a $650 million oil refinery in Nigeria.

Telecoms figures include Strive Masiyiwa, founder of Zimbabwean Econet, and Adenuga's Globacom, which serves over 40 million subscribers. Isabel dos Santos, Angola's former president's daughter, holds a 25% stake in Unitel. Sudanese entrepreneur Mohammed Ibrahim built his $1.1 billion fortune through the 2005 sale of Celtel, Africa's first mobile company established in 1998, to Kuwait's Mobile Telecommunications Company.

Real estate and financial investments are represented by Adenuga's Cobblestone Properties and Motsepe's African Rainbow Capital. Dos Santos maintains stakes in Angolan and Portuguese banks, including Banco BIC and Banco BPI.
