Vocal Kenyan attorney Ahmednassir Abdullahi has alleged that a covert constitutional revision effort is underway within State House, involving a 14-member team drawn from President Uhuru Kenyatta's office and opposition leader Raila Odinga's camp.
The claim emerged via a Thursday morning social media post, in which Abdullahi stated: "A technical committee of 14 individuals, operating under the handshake initiative and the Office of the President, is secretly drafting a new constitution for Kenya." The message specifically referenced Makau Mutua, a known associate within Abdullahi's network.
State House has not issued an official response to the allegations, leaving the public to weigh the credibility of the accusations. Abdullahi's reputation as a legal expert with close ties to government circles lends weight to his claims, despite the lack of corroborating evidence.
The allegations surface amid renewed political energy from Kenyatta and Odinga in addressing corruption, particularly in the Kimwarer and Arror dam projects, though no direct connection has been established between the two developments.
