A Meru Polytechnic student died by suicide in March 2019 after uncovering her boyfriend's infidelity, according to family members who confirmed her burial in Nkubu, Meru County. Fridah Makena, 20, had been staying with her partner Kelvin in Nairobi when she discovered romantic messages between him and another student, prompting her to leave the residence and eventually take her own life.
The incident unfolded after Makena visited Kelvin, a Cooperative University student, in late February 2019. She extended her stay to investigate rumors about his relationships, later accessing his phone to find evidence of his infidelity. After Kelvin left for school on Tuesday and did not return, Makena departed for Nakuru on Wednesday morning.
She shared a WhatsApp video showing her taking pills before being found dead. A message she sent to a friend prior to her death stated: "I am sorry but I can’t take it anymore. Kelvoh is the last thing I wanted to lose. There’s no life without him. Suicide was the last thing I ever thought of but I give up. All the best and please don’t miss me."
