Deputy President William Ruto has drawn sharp criticism from 12 MPs representing President Uhuru Kenyatta's Jubilee Coalition and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga's opposition alliance over his remarks regarding the Arror and Kimwarer dams scandal.
The lawmakers, including Naomi Shaban, Gladys Wanga, and Cecil Mbarire, accused Ruto of undermining national anti-corruption efforts by disputing the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission's (ACC) findings. They alleged he falsely claimed only Sh7 billion was lost in the project, contradicting the ACC's Sh21 billion estimate.
"Instead of embracing the war against corruption, they have decided to ethnicise and politicise it," one MP stated. Another noted: "I want to tell those in Jubilee that you have never seen Uhuru’s allies come out to insult Ruto." The remarks highlighted tensions within Kenya's political landscape over accountability for public funds.
