Olympic 800m champion David Rudisha confirmed his father, Daniel Matasi Rudisha, died at War Memorial Hospital in Nakuru on March 5, 2019, at age 73. The former athlete competed in the 1968 Mexico City Olympics, winning silver in the 400m hurdles and participating in Kenya's 4x400m relay team.
Rudisha shared social media posts earlier in the week requesting prayers for his ailing father. A tweet posted March 5, 2019, included a hospital photo of the two with the caption: 'Me and my ailing father... wish him quick recovery. Long live my dad.' The message linked to a Twitter post from the athlete's account.
Daniel Matasi Rudisha's athletic career began in the 1960s, later transitioning to coaching and education. His son, now a world record holder in the 800m, has become one of Kenya's most celebrated track athletes.
