Four individuals accused of brutally killing a suspected chicken thief in Khayega, Kakamega county, will be held in police custody for 15 days.

Francis Liseche, alias President, Agapitus Ingosi, Evans Ashimudu, and Reuben Shitambasi appeared before Senior Principal Magistrate Hezel Wandere on Monday, July 29, 2019.

Investigating Officer Athman Ali requested additional time to complete the investigation, citing the need to conduct a postmortem on the deceased and a mental test on the suspects.

Ali stated that the deceased's identity had not been confirmed, as he was not a resident and did not possess any identification documents.

The four suspects are accused of murdering the man on July 12, 2019, allegedly over a stolen car battery, two chickens, and a charcoal stove.

Interior Ministry CS Fred Matiang'i condemned the murder, stating that the incident was falsely reported as a case of mob justice.

However, only four of the suspects were paraded before a court for murder charges on Monday, July 29, 2019.
