A 17-year-old student at St. Joseph’s Nyabigena Boys High School in Kisii is under investigation for murder following an alleged attack on a fellow student in February 2019.
Isaiah Mirinya, a form four prefect, was detained on February 27 after police alleged he fatally assaulted a form three student. The incident occurred at 7:00 am on February 26 when Mirinya reportedly confronted the victim for reading a Bible.
Witnesses claim Mirinya struck the victim multiple times on the head and abdomen before the student died. The suspect was taken to Nyamarambe Police Station and later appeared in Kisii Court, where prosecutors requested additional time to complete forensic exams, mental evaluations, and witness interviews.
Resident Magistrate Gloria Barasah extended Mirinya’s detention for five days. The case is expected to proceed to Kisii High Court for formal charges, with authorities emphasizing the need for thorough evidence collection.
