The Fresh Produce Consortium of Kenya (FPC) confirmed that all member exporters faced significant challenges as flights were either canceled or rescheduled, jeopardizing perishable goods slated for international markets. FPC CEO Dr. Okisegere Ojepat urged stakeholders to prioritize dialogue to prevent future operational standoffs.
Kenya Airways revealed operational losses could reach billions of shillings amid the crisis, as the airline struggled to manage stranded passengers and logistical bottlenecks. The Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU) initiated the strike to protest the proposed Kenya Airways takeover by the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA), citing fears of job losses and poor management practices.
Transport Cabinet Secretary James Macharia condemned the strike organizers as 'criminals' following the disruption, which forced the airline to advise customers against visiting the airport.
