Major roads in Nairobi’s central business district will be closed to motor traffic on Sunday during the First Lady’s Half Marathon, according to official notices. The event, which begins at 6:30 am, will restrict access to nine primary routes from midnight through the afternoon.
Closed roads include Mombasa Road, Lusaka Road-Mombasa Road Junction, Aerodrome Road, Bunyala Road-Mombasa Road Junction, and Haille Selassie Roundabout. Additional closures affect Kenyatta Avenue, University Way, Waiyaki Way, and Museum Hill-Waiyaki Way Junction.
Initiated in 2014 by First Lady Margaret Kenyatta, the race supports the Beyond Zero campaign to reduce maternal and child mortality. Proceeds fund mobile health clinics for underserved communities. This year’s edition will feature competitors with visual and intellectual disabilities, aligning with international standards for 21km and 10km races.
