Wasafi Festival Lineup Sparks Controversy ¶
Wasafi Festival President Diamond Platnumz is at the center of a controversy after Tanzanian actress Shilole accused him of being selective in choosing artists for his global festival tour.
Speaking to the press, Shilole emphasized that Diamond should involve artists outside of WCB in his festival lineup, citing that there are many talented bongo flava artists who are not signed under WCB.
According to Shilole, these artists deserve a chance for publicity and growth in their music careers. She also faulted Diamond for not leading the pack as he ought to, stating that he should actualize his words of inclusivity.
Shilole's comments were made in response to Diamond's statement that Wasafi Festival is for all, but critics argue that the festival has always been about WCB's own artists.
However, WCB's vice President DJ Romy Jones has come out to defend Diamond, stating that it is impossible to have everyone on the platform. He also emphasized that talent comes and goes, and when the time is right, certain artists will be given the chance to shine.
When asked about Diamond's performances, Romy Jones replied that it is not about the number of shows, but rather the quality of the performances. He also stated that the decision to feature certain artists is based on their individual merits.
Shilole's comments have sparked a heated debate on social media, with many fans and artists weighing in on the issue.
