Kenya Airways (KQ) saw its shares climb 5.99% to Ksh6.02 on March 6, defying pressure from the Kenya Aviation Workers Union (KAWU) over proposed merger talks with the Kenya Airports Authority. The national carrier ranked as the second-highest gainer on the Nairobi Securities Exchange (NSE) amid broader market activity.
EA Portland Cement topped the gains list with a 10% surge to Ksh18.70, followed by East African Breweries up 3.96% to Ksh203.50 and Barclays Bank Kenya gaining 3.07% to Ksh11.75. KCB Group closed 2.01% higher at Ksh43.05 after reporting a Ksh24 billion annual profit.
Olympia Capital Holdings, which had led gains the previous day, fell to fifth among decliners after dropping 5.68% to Ksh2.49. East African Cables suffered the steepest loss at 9.03% to Ksh2.82, while Unga Group slid 7.89% to Ksh35 and Carbacid Investments fell 7.44% to Ksh9.20.
Volume leaders included BAT Kenya with 5.8 million shares traded at Ksh604, Safaricom moving 5.4 million shares at Ksh26.60, and Barclays Bank Kenya handling 5.04 million shares at Ksh11.75. KCB Group and East African Breweries completed the top five volume movers.
