A 20-year-old Business Management student at Meru National Polytechnic recorded a video showing herself ingesting multiple tablets before dying from a paracetamol overdose, according to reports.
The footage, shared on WhatsApp with friends moments before her death, captured the student swallowing unspecified medication as she prepared to end her life. She was found unconscious in her dormitory and later succumbed to injuries at Consolata Hospital in Nkubu.
Family members confirmed the student, identified as Fridah Makena, will be buried on Thursday in Kaunjugi village, Imenti South, Meru county. A requiem mass is scheduled at Kigarine Catholic Church prior to the funeral.
Friends described her as emotionally distressed following a romantic dispute with a Cooperative University of Kenya student, whom she accused of infidelity. Colleagues noted she had purchased approximately 30 paracetamol tablets before the incident.
A unnamed classmate expressed regret over the tragedy, stating, "We wish she had sought professional help or spoken to someone instead of taking her life." The student had previously sent screenshots of the medication to a friend, warning of her intent to end her life over the relationship breakdown.
