Gatundu South MP Moses Kuria has declared the Jubilee Party non-existent following the 2019 reconciliation between President Uhuru Kenyatta and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga. The legislator stated in a social media post that 'there is no longer a political party known as Jubilee,' referencing the handshake that symbolized the alliance.
Kuria, who is positioning himself for the 2022 presidential race, has been linked to the Democratic Party (DP), founded by former President Mwai Kibaki in 1990. Recent social media activity by the MP included images of the DP's flag and lamp emblem, which he later explained as signaling the party's appeal to Mt Kenya politicians ahead of the next elections.
The DP invited Kuria to deliver a keynote address at its National Executive Committee meeting, where he reported discussions on aligning positions through the Building Bridges Initiative. When questioned about his continued membership in Jubilee, Kuria stated he would leave 'at a time of my choosing,' without specifying when.
