Former Prime Minister Raila Odinga accused unnamed politicians of allegedly diverting Sh20 billion intended for Kerio Valley dam projects, calling for transparency in ongoing investigations.
"If figures confirm the theft of funds for the dams, don't mislead by reducing the amount to Sh7 billion," Odinga stated, urging investigators to complete their work. "Who are you to dictate the scale of the crime? You're the one trying to deflect blame," he added.
The remarks, made during a Kirinyaga speech at the Sixth Annual Devolution Conference, directly countered Deputy President William Ruto's earlier assertion that only Sh7 billion was at stake and that taxpayers were protected by loan guarantees.
Odinga emphasized that corruption must be addressed to meet development goals, citing global examples of leaders facing consequences for graft. "Kenya must learn from these precedents," he said, while criticizing politicians for avoiding accountability.
He reiterated support for constitutional reforms to establish a three-tier government structure, framing the issue as a broader fight against systemic corruption.
