Kapseret MP Oscar Sudi, a close ally of Deputy President William Ruto, directly challenged President Uhuru Kenyatta's anti-corruption campaign, alleging it disproportionately targets his community. The clash followed the president's public invitation for anyone with evidence of his misconduct to come forward through official channels rather than making accusations at funerals.
Sudi countered by listing ongoing court cases involving parastatal officials from Elgeyo/Marakwet County, which he claimed were linked to his region and Ruto allies. He specifically criticized the investigation into the Sh63 billion Arror and Kimwarer dam projects, arguing the probe aims to halt construction and prosecute local officials.
The MP highlighted similar dam projects with unstarted work and delayed payments, including the Sh7.2 billion Thwake dam in Makueni (2017), Sh3.6 billion Karumenu in Kiambu (2018), and Sh4.2 billion Arror in Elgeyo/Marakwet (2018). He questioned why only the Elgeyo/Marakwet dams faced scrutiny despite comparable financial commitments elsewhere.
"Your so-called fight against corruption is targeted at individuals and a community," Sudi stated, accusing the president of selective enforcement. The remarks underscore tensions within Kenya's political landscape as regional interests intersect with national anti-graft efforts.
